This walk is an excellent introduction to the Scottish Highlands. A gentle elevation along the famous West Highland Way with ever changing views over the hills and a first sense of the wide, expansive landscapes Scotland has to offer.
We tackle the peak of Conic Hill (361m) which marks the spectacular geological Highland fault line and offers panoramic views as far as the coast, the Isle of Arran and the Highland mountains. (6km, 3 hours walk max)
After a picnic lunch we take a short boat ride (seasonal) from Balmaha across to the romantic island of Inchcailloch where we walk in its magic woods and come across ancient history of local clans and hermit saints and the most wonderful views over the loch to the big mountains. (2km, 1 leisurely hour’s walk)
Walking: 6km, 4 hours in total, 350 m ascent.
Trail: Good and undulating, sometimes steep path – uneven, rocky in places and may be muddy and slippery when wet.
Fitness: You should have the fitness and balance of someone who regularly enjoys easy walks on dirt tracks and the occasional challenge.
